Crisp Winter Wedding in Chateau Rhianfa, Ynys Mon
Christine and Owain celebrated their love in a beautifully timeless wedding at the stunning Chateau Rhianfa on a crisp and sunny winter’s day. The date held special significance, as they chose to marry on Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen—a day dedicated to St. Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of love.
While often misunderstood as the “Welsh equivalent” of Valentine’s Day, St. Dwynwen’s Day, or Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen, honours Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Unlike Valentine’s Day, it isn’t commercialised but instead celebrates a uniquely Welsh tale of love and selflessness. Dwynwen’s tale is one of heartbreak and devotion—though she was unable to marry her own true love, she dedicated her life to helping others find happiness in love. It’s a fitting day for a wedding rooted in love and tradition.
Christine and Owain had a classic and elegant theme for their wedding. Owain looked dapper in a black tuxedo, and Christine was absolutely radiant in her bridal gown and faux fur shawl. The decor for both the ceremony and reception was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the talented team at Etiquette. They transformed the spaces with stunning floral arrangements and every detail was thoughtfully curated.
One of my favourite moments of the day was when Christine and Owain braved the freezing waters of the Menai Straits for some couple portraits. With the beautiful Eryri mountains in the background and the winter sunlight dancing on the water. Despite the freezing conditions, the couple’s joy and love shone through, creating some unforgettable images. In Owain’s words, while reluctantly taking off his socks and shoes and rolling up his trousers - “Life would be very boring without you Christine!”. The couple’s adorable fur-daughter, Tia, also made an appearance for some of the couple shots which made it even more special.
Another memorable moment of the day was Christine’s speech, delivered entirely in Welsh. Having learnt the language from scratch, her words were spoken beautifully, and the effort and sincerity of her speech reduced Owain and many of the guests to tears.
The celebrations in the evening took an exciting turn during Christine and Owain’s first dance. Guests were thrilled when Band Pres Llareggub made a surprise appearance, filling the room with their signature energy. Their lively performance got everyone up on their feet, kicking off a night of dancing and celebration that carried on well into the evening.
Christine and Owain’s wedding at Chateau Rhianfa was a perfect reflection of their love story—timeless, joyful, and full of heart. From the elegant black-and-red theme to the gorgeous decor, and the special moments with Tia and the Menai Straits, every detail came together to create a day they’ll never forget.
